Own goal - 2014 photo challenge

One photo, different filters.

So, this was month one of my 2014 photo challenge then. I managed to post one picture every day. Occasionally, the pictures' relation to the writing prompt is quite obvious, sometimes I just snap random objects I think will make a good photo. And every now and again, I manage to take a picture that's actually quite good.
Here's hoping that the ones that are actually quite good will become more frequent in the coming months.

Never in conditions like these - 2014 photo challenge

The weather is not on my side. No wind, no hail when I need them. But I'm sure there are things you can't do on a lovely, sunny day like this.

Foggy hill - 2014 photo challenge

That would have been the perfect prompt for yesterday, what with all the fog. Today: only rain. So I improvised.

Unexpected - 2014 photo challenge

Grr, I blurred the pic. Usually, I take more than one picture and decide later which one I'm going to use. Today, of course, I didn't. So here it is, in all its blurry glory:

Save them for later - 2014 photo challenge

Nearly took a picture of a box of chocolates there. Thought better of it. The chocolates would have had more to do with the writing prompt, true, but this is a much better photograph.

Intermission - 2014 photo challenge

I could explain the thoughts that made me go from today's writing prompt to the picture, but that would be boring, wouldn't it?

Swedish sieve - 2014 photo challenge

Now, had we gone to Ikea today, I might actually have managed to take a photo of Swedish sieve. As it is, though, here's a brick wall:

Vital signs - 2014 photo challenge

I like this one. Even though the connection between writing prompt and my interpretation of it isn't strong. Never mind, I like strangeness.

For six years - 2014 photo challenge

No, there is no connection between the writing prompt and the photo today. None whatsoever. I like the photo, that's all.

Knit more instruments - 2014 photo challenge

Okay, today was a though one. I don't know what I was thinking when I came up with this writing prompt.

Well, here's the result. The golden things poking out from the hedge look a bit like knitting needles, don't they?

Discounted - 2014 photo challenge

Not quite the same thing, but they are related.

I have to up my game a bit, I reckon. Those last few photos were far too obviously linked to the writing prompts.

Polish - 2014 photo challenge

A good polish, that's what my boots need.

Bonus writing prompt: swings. Why? Because I was on the swings while I took the pic.

The thing I made - 2014 photo challenge

A friendly ghost - made by me. So I can claim that I've taken a prompt at face value for once.
I am using this little guy as a story-telling tool, by the way. Goes down well with the three-year old.

Dialogue - 2014 photo challenge

You can see the link here, can't you?
This is from page 110 of David Hewson's "Writing: A User Manual". Use "fellow human beings", "down at a computer" and/or "made-up story" as bonus writing prompts for today.

Be realistic - 2014 photo challenge

Nothing says 'be realistic' like a – hang on, WHAT is that?

A Daily Writing Prompts New Year’s Resolution

I’ve been thinking about giving the Photo A Day challenge a go in 2014. I was about to give up and then it struck me: I could interpret the writing prompts in photos.

There may be lots of times when I’ll find it rather tricky, so I’m not going to adhere slavishly to the prompts. It’s likely that often, there will be no obvious connection between the writing prompt and the picture I post. Today’s, for instance, is my own, strange interpretation of be realistic.

What does this mean for you? Feel free to use my 2014 photo challenge pictures as writing prompts. If you want to have a go at your own photographic interpretation of the prompts, you’ll make me extraordinarily happy.

So, there will be a photograph in a moment. Happy New Year! Let’s make it a great one for writing. And weird photos :)
